EGS Co-Sponsors a Special Conference on the Arts for Social and Environmental Justice – Submissions Welcome!
The Arts for Social and Environmental Justice Symposium Saturday, May 15 2010 At The Royal Conservatory, 273 Bloor St., W, Toronto, ON
The Laurier Centre for Music in the Community of Wilfrid Laurier University and The Royal Conservatory, in partnership with ISIS-Canada and the European Graduate School, are hosting a timely symposium addressing arts education and its connection to social and environmental issues. The term education is used in its broadest sense to mean both formal (e.g., school) and informal (e.g., community-based) learning. The one-day symposium will feature keynote speakers Rena Upitis, Stephen K. Levine, Danika Billie Littlechild, and Max Wyman, as well as research papers, participatory workshops, and artistic performances.
This symposium invites submissions in the following categories:
- Research presentations that deal with any aspect of the arts and social and/or environmental issues (20 minutes maximum time)
- Narrative papers describing practices in the educational or arts community dealing with the symposium themes (20 minutes maximum time)
- Interactive workshops dealing with the symposium themes (up to 1.5 hours, with longer workshops to be considered)
Submission Guidelines
- Individuals and groups are invited to submit abstracts of their papers or workshops, not exceeding 500 words.
- Also, please submit a cover page that includes author or authors’ name(s), institutional or organizational affiliation (where applicable), address, phone number, and e-mail address, plus a 4-sentence biography for each presenter.
- Based upon results from this Call for Papers and Presentations, we will construct a format that will include opportunities for interaction and dialogue as well as for formal presentations.
- All proposals are requested as soon as possible, but no later than March 15, 2010. The steering committee will jury the submissions and provide acceptance feedback by March 30, 2010.
Please send your submissions as MS Word documents by email to Dr. Ann Patteson.
